re: Liberal Push for Commercial Use of Kangaroos Condemned

Dear Editor,

A commercial killing (and processing) of kangaroos ban was implemented in 1982 for good reason ; there weren't enough kangaroos to support a viable kangaroo industry in Victoria. (The Weekly Times May 25th, 1984 "You've hunted them all out down there".)

But the Liberals are so keen to get a meat processing industry reintroduced that Opposition Agriculture/Resources Minister Phil Davis refers to a herd of kangaroos, not a mob, emphasising his ignorance about kangaroos.

He has profits on his mind about RIRDC Federal Government subsidies to kill this free resource.( January 1, 2004), not the way their dead bodies replenish the degraded land or the pain and suffering they endure or the way they have lived in harmony with Mother Earth for millions of years. The Libs seek to tame nature but will never succeed. Shame on you Liberals!

Sincerely,

Maryland Wilson
